Complete Solution of Glass wool thermal insulation

Glass wool is a thermal insulation material consisting of intertwined and flexible glass fibers, which causes it to “package” air, resulting in a low density that can be varied through compression and binder content (as noted above, these air cells are the actual insulator).

Glass wool can be a loose-fill material, blown into attics, or together with an active binder, sprayed on the underside of structures, sheets, and panels that can be used to insulate flat surfaces such as cavity wall insulation, ceiling tiles, curtain walls, and ducting. It is also used to insulate piping and for soundproofing.

 Glass Wool Properties

The following is properties of glass wool material,

  • Glass wool is one of the best alternatives to the insulation provided to the house.
  • It can also be a good thermal insulator.
  • Being made from recycled material it is an inexpensive and cost-effective product.
  • It has good tensile strength, in the sense, it will be a durable material.

Fiberglass itself is resistant to mold. If mold is found in or on fiberglass it is more likely that the binder is the source of the mold, since binders are often organic and more hygroscopic than the glass wool. In tests, glass wool was found to be highly resistant to the growth of mold. Only exceptional circumstances resulted in mold growth: very high relative humidity, 96% and above, or saturated glass wool, although saturated wool glass will only have moderate growth.

FAQ

fiberglass

Glass wool, which is one product called “fiberglass” today, was invented some time between 1932 to 1933 by Games Slayter of Owens-Illinois, as a material to be used as thermal building insulation. It is marketed under the trade name Fiberglas, which has become a genericized trademark.

Glasswool is a widely used insulation material . It is available in sizes of 12mm, 25mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm and density of 16,24,32,48. The risk of glasswool May cause mechanical irritation to the eyes, respiratory tract and skin. Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly. Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. Lungs may be affected by repeated or prolongated exposure.

It has good flexibility, affordable price and it is easy to install. Features of fiber glass wool are nature products, acoustical absorption, high thermal resistance with low thermal conductivity (Working temperature at about 450 ºC), fire safe materials and environmental friendly materials.

The uses of nitrile rubber include disposable non-latex gloves, automotive transmission belts, hoses, O-rings, gaskets, oil seals, V belts, synthetic leather, printer’s form rollers, and as cable jacketing; NBR latex can also be used in the preparation of adhesives and as a pigment binder.

Acoustic Glass Wool or acoustic fiberglass is lightweight and has excellent acoustic absorption even at low densities. Glass wool is created through a unique process, as small pockets of air are trapped by fine glass fibers to produce a reliable insulating material.

It was found that the glass wool with moisture has 0.136 W/mk in thermal conductivity so that thermal conductivity increases 4 times compared to 0.0343 W/mk shown in typical glass wool.

The exact composition of glass may vary to meet specific applications requirements but the most commonly use type of glass, soda-lime glass, is made of silica sand, soda ash, limestone, dolomite and glass cullets (recycled glass).
